REI Manhattan Beach, CA has become my ultimate destination for all my outdoor equipment and clothing needs. I have been a loyal customer for years, and my membership has been a longstanding commitment. Whether it's getting my snowboard waxed, my mountain bike tuned, or simply shopping for clothing and hiking shoes, the staff at REI consistently goes above and beyond to provide exceptional assistance with a friendly demeanor. Today's visit was no exception. I took advantage of an outstanding sale and purchased a Thule roof cargo box at a remarkable 20% discount. Originally, my plan was to pick up the box curbside and install it myself. However, when the REI associate brought out the colossal box, it became evident that my self-installation idea might not have been the wisest decision. Perhaps sensing my concern or recognizing a fellow customer in need, Chris promptly informed me that, as a member, I was eligible for a complimentary installation. He assured me it would only take about 10 minutes. Chris was truly remarkable, providing a thorough demonstration of the system while efficiently and professionally preparing the roof box for installation. With our combined effort, we had it securely mounted within minutes. I cannot stress enough how highly I recommend this store. The customer service here is consistently outstanding, surpassing my expectations each and every time.

I used to come here several times a year and was a loyal customer to REI, practically free marketing for them but I never recommend them anymore. I was told by employees when I would make a purchase here that I could return any item within a year of purchase if it’s still in good condition, however, similar to another customer’s experience in these reviews, the cashier I was working with (who didn’t seem to want to be there) scrutinized my items and said I had nothing I could return. This had never happened in the past. Even after she said no, she called her manager over for support in her decision. She said they couldn’t be returned even if I used them once. I went to the outlet (which the main store didn’t even give as an option, but I knew as a member I could return items there too if the main store didn’t approve of the condition), the employee there asked why I hadn’t returned them at the main store because they were in excellent condition. I explained what had happened and they tried to help me out by calling the main store. It seemed they had their hands tied behind their back with these specific employees and told me it would be best to try returning my items at a different location entirely due to my experience here. Overall, I felt like I was treated unfairly and with distrust for wanting to return anything at all. I have not purchased anything here in over a year due to that experience. I used to ask for gift cards for this place on my bday and Christmas, but I could care less about this establishment now. If you’re gonna buy anything, I’d recommend equipment over clothing.

This place gave my sister the worst shopping experience she's ever had. A female employee (shoulder length reddish hair) completely fat shamed my sister when she was trying to just get a price check on snow pants. She kept repeating and repeating have you tried them on in a very nasty tone. My sister is not usually sensitive, and this employee made her cry when she left with her terrible manner and rude comments. She tried to make the comments in a round a bout way but it was obvious what she was trying to say. Really sad this was her experience, as it is usually one of her favorite places to shop :(

Great place to find a good deal. Found a 4 person tent I had my eye one for a while at a great price. They have everything; chairs, clothes, shoes, tents, bike racks, coolers...everything you need. Stan was freaking AMAZING!!! He went above and beyond to help us out. I had asked a young lady for help but she was too busy standing around. Stan came over without me having to ask. He is for sure a superstar!! Great info and tips and best personality. He gets a 5 star review!!!

Just one of those reviews/rants/venting where I felt I was mistreated as the customer when trying to return a $30 item. Ultimately I did receive a refund and previously I’ve had only good in-store experiences in the past, but this experience trying to return a $30 item, two REI employees (cashier and manager) made me feel like I was the bad guy, and still have me feeling the need to write this review after a few weeks have passed (vent/rant). I used to like to support REI and would always check if they offer items that I’m looking for, but I’ll most likely avoid purchasing from REI for some time unless it’s out of convenience. 99% of the time I’ve only been met with nice REI employees, but that day I encountered 2 unpleasant REI employees.

This store is fantastic! Been numerous times and have found items easily 50-75% off retail prices in perfect shape. Just know you’ll have to look around, and not everything in the store is a deal or in excellent condition. It’s a true outdoor gear bargain hunter’s paradise if you’re willing to hunt. The staff has been friendly each time I’ve gone.

First time visiting this REI resale store. Everything is labeled as returned goods and priced as final sale item with no return or refund. So you do have to really take a good look at the item cuz once you buy you own it. Pricing wise, it's a big savings from new and especially great deal if you're looking for cheap name brand gear.
